Good Tea, but not worth the price
I used my free 50g from Frequent Steepers to sample some of this tea and in that context, I quite enjoyed the tea. It's not my favorite, it's not even in my top 5 Oolongs on this site, but it was a pleasant taste. But the price is extremely excessive, especially for a non-blooming tea. Most teas that sit at such a price are tightly packed and expand in water, meaning you need less tea to steep a pot or cup. But this tea requires you to use a lot of it. Overall, I think this tea is good if money is no object to you. But if that isn't the case, then you can find alternative teas that are both tastier and more affordable.

The more I drink it, the more I love it
Although I have had “grocery store” tea for many years, I am new to the more refined subtleties of tea types and teas from around the world. Decided I needed a new hobby during this pandemic (rather than drink too much wine) so began my tea journey. This Phoenix Oolong is so wonderfully soft, with a lovely prolonged taste of lychee and just a bit of grapefruit. The more I try it, the more I love it. Learning to steep it 2-3 times to get the most out of the different flavours. Makes me want to keep trying oolongs, and learn the traditional methods of tea making. Will definitely purchase again.

Fine tea
This has a rich flavour and is a bolder red oolong of great quality. Notes of black tea without the bitterness or harshness. This isn't a tea for a quick fix. This is a tea for appreciating and taking the time to enjoy the complex notes that change from sip to finish. This is a tea that makes you feel special!

Luxury in a cup
A nice sales associate at the Montreal Monkland location turned me onto this tea. Given that the majority of DAVIDsTEA blends are on the "fun" side with sprinkles, edible glitter, dried fruits/nuts, etc., it's always a nice surprise when you stumble upon a good-quality straight tea, like this Dan Cong. It seems like they have supply issues with straight teas, and this one is no exception - I am happy to see that it's available online so I placed an order for some more. Traditional/straight oolongs are becoming my favorite teas as they're not as fussy as green or white teas to brew, resteep well, and have a wide spectrum of flavors - I'd love to see DAVIDsTEA concentrate on sourcing interesting, quality straight teas of all kinds in the future, even if they're only available sporadically, and letting customers know they're available.
This has a definite fruity undertone (they say plum, but I feel like it's a bit like passionfruit also) and is more on the red/black tea side of the oolong spectrum. Not at all bitter, a very smooth cup. 2nd and 3rd infusions show the more floral side of the tea. Not a tea to be rushed or guzzled on the go - take your time to appreciate this one (in teaware that allows you to see the tea brew) and resteep to savor the transformation of the flavor profile as it develops over steepings.

A true tea
This is a wonderful straight oolong tea. It has all the proper taste elements of a good oolong: a bit charred, aged, and bitter. It's not vegetal the way green tea is, it's better described as woody. This definitely isn't the type of tea that should be sweetened, as it will just enhance the bitterness. I love drinking it after a heavy meal, or whenever I feel a bit ugh. It really cleanses the soul.
While this is stunning, anyone who claims this tea has any sort of "complex notes of plum/grapefruit/lychee/etc" is 200% embellishing the experience. I've brewed this tea over a dozen times, several different ways, and have had several people drink it. They all appreciate the authenticity of the flavour, but agree that there aren't any sort of floral or fruity undertone. It's just a straight, real oolong.
Don't expect any sort of richness or vibrancy. If you want a more true tea experience, you will really enjoy it!

It's perfect, the best tea Davidstea carries. Please do not discontinue it. Davidstea discontinued their other Dan Cong Oolong a few years ago (Oolong Supreme) and I'm hoping this one does not go that same route. It's a fanatastic tea!

Phoenix Oolong is now one of my favourites!
This tea is absolutely delicious! From the moment I opened it's bag it's fruity aroma captivated me. It has a smooth fruity flavour that does resemble Lychee. Although it's a darker tea, it's light, well rounded, slightly floral and it's perfect for Spring (still, I'm sure I'll be having it all year round). After the first sip I knew this would become one of my favourites and I can't recommend it enough. I did infuse the leaves around 3 times (leaving them for a bit longer on the subsquent ones) and all came out great.
