pure excellence

Looking for the best Matcha Matsu in town? In Japanese, “matsu” literally means “pine tree.” But it’s also a term that indicates excellence. This detoxifying organic green tea powder lives up to its name. Bold in taste and aroma, this indulgent matcha powder is perfect as is, or as a base for your lattes, milkshakes and smoothies. Excellent.

What Makes It Great:

 • This matcha fave is now Certified Organic!
 • Matcha is a labour of love—it's made by removing the stems and spines of the tea leaves and then grinding the leaf into a fine powder. Because you're ingesting the entire leaf, you get 100% of the benefits, plus an energy boost.
 • Delicious sipped on its own or mixed into lattes, milkshakes and smoothies.

I'm really disappointed because the matcha clumps up at the bottom of the cup no matter how much I whisk it. The taste is very bitter and resembles matcha of poor quality. I've stored it properly as I've read some other reviews. I'm under the impression that quality no longer matters to DAVIDsTEA and that's really unfortunate because it's the only company I buy from. I'll have to find some other place to buy matcha I suppose.
Date published: 2021-02-11

Rated 1 out of 5 by rita. from What happened?? I always buy this product. It used to be good quality dark green Match. The last batch a bought was yellowish which indicated the lowest quality matcha you can buy, its not even good for baking and is absolutely disgusting to drink. Match of this quality should be a third of the price. I bought a large amount of Matcha this time becuase I drink it everyday and had never had an issue with the quality. And now im stuck with this garbage since all the stores are now closed and customer service has 1 person working that is not responding to messages or answering the phone. I attached a photo. The matcha in the spoon is the color I usually get and the color in the bag is the garabe that was shipped to me. The color is muted in the photos so its a more pronounced difference in person. Waste. Until they can get the quality sorted DO NOT BUY
Date published: 2020-03-21

Rated 1 out of 5 by EmmaEmma from How is this excellence exactly? Decided to try Matcha Matsu as I've never tried this one before and decided to try another Matcha from David's (I usually drink Grand Cru). What the heck is this? It tastes really bitter compared to any matcha I've had before... and I drink a lot of green tea and matcha in genera so I am used to the taste of green tea. This tastes really cheap. And yes, I follow temperature directions to the T (I have a kettle where I can adjust the temperature as I please - as an avid tea drinker, this is essential). So, no, it's not me not following seeping instructions. This matcha is just bad. At $16/50g, don't throw your money away, just don't buy this. If you like Matcha, you know this isn't good. Spend a little more and get good matcha instead... you're better off with the Grand Cru.
Date published: 2020-06-24

Rated 4 out of 5 by Anonymous from Good Matcha Good quality, brightly coloured matcha. Needs a little care to avoid clumping, use a small amount of water at first, then add more once a paste has formed. Great in lattes and on its own, flavour is bitter and pleasant. Price is decent. Would like to have received 100g in one bag rather than 2 50g bags. The shipping packaging is excessive (particularly the air bags) for some tea (which isn't fragile) and feels wasteful so I'll be thinking twice about online ordering. Please consider more sustainable options.
Date published: 2020-05-27

Rated 1 out of 5 by ConnieC from Calling this tea excellent is an insult to matcha I drink a lot of matcha so when davidstea came out with the matcha line, I knew I had to try it out. 1) First of all, the tea is stored in room temperature, in non airtight containers, which should never be done for good quality matcha. In fact, all the matcha at davidstea is stored this way, which really makes me question the quality of the even higher grade and more expensive teas. Matcha oxidizes quickly, and should be stored in the fridge for maximum longevity. At room temp, it will only last a few weeks before taking on bitter tastes. 2) Color: This was a light yellowish green. Good quality matcha should be a much darker, richer green. Of all the matchas I own, Japanese or otherwise, this was the yellowest one. 3) Taste: Very bitter, but also flat and tasteless. It has very little body or depth of flavour. It tastes like bitter green tea. Good matcha shouldn't be very bitter (again, questionable storage practices) and it should taste vegetal and almost grassy. Matcha matsu was very... undrinkable. Overall, you could use this in baking or in sweet matcha flavoured concoctions, but as a tea to drink? Definitely not. Even the lowest quality "culinary grade" Japanese matcha I own far surpassed this one.
Date published: 2019-12-05

Rated 5 out of 5 by Cindy from Edmonton from Matcha Matsu Single Serves The David’s Tea Matcha Single Serves was the first matcha I tried and it is amazing.
