I had high expectations but things did not go as planned. Pros: The ball's size is larger than most tea balls and the metal string is nice touch. The small holes, while still not working with some of their dustier teas, works fairly well in keeping 95% of the loose tea in. Cons: Most of Davids Teas say 1-2 perfect teaspoons. This tea ball only holds 1 scoop of the perfect teaspoon. If you tried to put two scoops in, your tea will spill over the sides instead of remaining in the ball. Also, once your tea is steeped, the re-hydrated tea leaves take up twice the space as the dried tea did originally. I had this tea ball "explode" open when trying to two scoops of tea and it was either waste the tea and start fresh, or painstakingly strain out the loose tea from boiling hot water. I thought that the silicone ring would make things easier, but in fact getting the two pieces separate, even when cold, is a struggle. The silicone traps loose tea particles underneath itself and is hard to clean. My ring already has a tear in it from having to turn it "inside out" to clean it and prevent mold forming between the layers. Simply rinsing out the ball with hot water is fine when binge drinking tea in a single day, but I think daily cleaning is needed to keep bacteria from forming when warmth, moisture, and plant matter are involved. I really wanted to like this product, and I started this review with 3 stars...but as I remembered and listed all my issues with it, the 3 stars became the 1. I am going to reach out to the David's tea team about the tear in the silicone, but it is still frustrating to have to do so.
Date published: 2019-11-14

Rated 4 out of 5 by SydneyM9103 from Works well, but lets a few leaves loose This is the first loose leaf tea steeper that I’ve had, and I’m pretty happy with it. I couldn’t figure out how to use it at first because some pictures of it are misleading, but once I figured it out, it was a breeze. Simply remove the blue band and separate the top from bottom; do the reverse to put it back together. This may be a result of user error, but I have had a few tea leaves slip out of it into the mug, but they mostly settle at the bottom.
Date published: 2019-08-26

Rated 5 out of 5 by Arenal from Best Tea Ball Ever! I bought my tea ball several years ago and, though a bit tea-stained, it is holding up well. The problem with other metal tea balls is that tea always slips through the middle where the two halves join. Because of the silicone joiner on David's tea ball, this doesn't happen. The tea ball is fairly large and can easily hold 2-3 teaspoons of tea depending on how large the leaves are. The holes are small enough that only very fine tea will slip through, in which case I use a paper filter instead. I plan to buy 1-2 more just to have as back-up.
Date published: 2020-11-15

Rated 5 out of 5 by adaycar from You Need This Great size and love that the little openings are small enough to let water drain but hold all that leafy goodness inside. I love the silicone sides to reduce that clinking noise! It feels sturdy and high quality with a nice quality metal "string" I can use it in my yeti mug without it making a ton of noise and not scratching the sides. The little silicone tab actually fits through the little opening where you drink so you don't have to worry about damaging when putting the lid on your mug! It has a nice weight and sinks down to the bottom of the cup releasing little bubbles so you know the tea is really infusing. I was confused figuring out how to open it but then figured out that if you pull the silicone collar down slightly in a spot, you can grab the top half of the ball easily where it meets the bottom half and it opens very smoothly. Closing it after loading the tea is effortless as well. I like the little blue weight that hangs outside the tea cup with a long wire that accommodates any height of mug. Absolutely no leaking tea leaves with this baby. It would put a tea leaf reader out of business!
