I also just wanted to support Tea Horse and didn't really read the description or ingredients too closely. So it gets here and the first ingredient is "roasted wild rice" and I'm like "umm...what?!". Regardless I like those types of flavors so I brewed myself a cup (200f for 5 min). This brews up DARK (almost black) and I added NOTHING to it because I wanted to experience it as is. OMG the flavor! You know how some black tea can taste like hot water without milk and sugar? This ain't that tea...it does have that smokiness, a little sweetness, and overall a rich warmth that makes you want to drink it on a rainy day. I could also see this as an iced tea with a little extra sweetener and possibly some mulled berries in there. The closest thing I can compare this to is Genmaicha, but a black tea and it works WELL. Overall, pleasantly surprised and will be grabbing this again before it's gone!
Date published: 2022-04-29

Rated 5 out of 5 by TheAri from New favorite, lovely black tea with maple! This was one of my Frequent Steeper reward teas that I got for myself to try out! I love that the bag for this one isn’t the usual plastic one, but a compostable baggie. Also, I can smell a tiiiiny bit of the tea through the baggie, which I usually can’t through the other ones, so I really liked that (especially since the tea still seems perfectly secure and preserved in there.) Upon opening the baggie properly, the most prominent smell is that of maple, and a little bit of the blueberry, or a faint berry-note in general. The whole bag smells absolutely amazing, easily one of the best smelling teas I’ve had so far. As Hot Tea: As per usual, I tried it as a hot tea first, and steeped it twice. Since this blend doesn’t contain anything that can dissolve completely during the first steep (except maybe a bit of the maple sugar?), both cups tasted very nice and very similar, and a third steep might have been possible also without too much loss in flavor, just maybe a little less sweet. Taste-wise it tastes mellow and not too sweet, which is just how I personally like it. There is a definite hint of maple, not so much of the berry, but mostly it just tastes like a good quality black tea. It still smells soooo nice too. I didn’t add any milk to it because it didn’t need any, the tea was great on its own. As Tea Latte: Next up was a tea latte, prepared according to DT instructions. And…first things first: Do yourself a favor, and try this as tea latte!!! It tastes soooo good. I’m usually an avid hot tea drinker, but David’s Tea has this trend of making these amazing blends that taste stunning as tea lattes. My milk frother hasn’t been this busy since the day I got it and tried my way through the different milks. I steeped it twice to see whether the second cup would be just as good, and while it is again a little less sweet, it is still very flavorful. I used oat milk for the first, and normal lactose-free milk for the second cup, and both tasted great without taking away from that maple-flavored goodness. It still tastes like black tea and to me that’s the most dominant flavor, but that’s exactly what I expect from a black tea and just how I like it to be. The maple undertones remind me of autumn and maple syrup on pancakes, and it’s a delicious tea all around that I’ll definitely be getting again whenever I may get the chance. (Being from Germany, it might unfortunately take quite a while before I can get my hands on any of DT’s teas again……but I shall wait and hope for this tea to still be there by then, because it is amazing and I love it.) Definitely a new favorite, and I am devastated that I only bought 50g of it!! Who would I recommend this tea to? Since this tea is sweet but still retains its black tea flavor, I’d recommend it to black tea lovers and those who would like black tea if it tasted milder but not necessarily fruity. I’m not sure I would label it a dessert tea, though it is definitely something a little fancier than my usual teas and I wouldn’t just make it throughout the day willy-nilly.
Date published: 2022-08-07

 Rated 5 out of 5 by K.
