Manuka Honey Hero Tea

I like to be slapped in the face with ginger usually (I enjoy eating the pickled ginger from all my friends' sushi plates and eating ginger cookies while drinking ginger ale), but this was even too much for me. Kind of burns my throat. The liquorice also ruins it. I absolutely hate liquorice, so that was really my bad for not reading the ingredients or reviews. I just really love both honeycomb and chai, so I was blinded and hoping this would be the chai of my dreams. Alas, it's my least favorite David'sTea flavor I have ever tried. The honey flavor barely comes through. Adding honey only amped up the ginger and liquorice flavors when I tried it. Ginger may be my top favorite tea ingredient. But you have to like it to like it. It's pretty full of licorice too, another love or hate ingredient. I thought it would have a nice sweet and creamy honey flavor balanced with some lovely chai spices but it definitely wasn't that. Right off the bat the ginger is right in your face. The liquorice is also very strong, leaving an aftertaste that lasts past the cup. Then I got a fruity taste that almost clashed with the ginger. Next I tried it hot with some honey and some vanilla oat milk and that's definitely the way to go. The milk got rid of the fruity taste and some of the aftertaste from the liquorice however the ginger is still pretty strong and it brings out the manuka honey flavor a bit more. I think I could see myself enjoying it this way on a chilly afternoon or if I'm sick. Overall I would not purchase this again however. It isn't the delightful chai blend I was expecting and if I want a spicy ginger tea I already own super ginger and ginger honey. I love chai, but I&rsquo;m not a fan of honey or (strong) ginger. When I opened the package, I smelled the ginger first, and did not expect to like the flavors at all. The instructions suggest steeping for 5+ minutes but there's a stale/musty(?) taste that's just too overpowering. My suggestion if you want this for the manuka honey craze- steep for 2-3 minutes max. This is the most interesting of David&rsquo;s Teas I&rsquo;ve tried. The ginger is light this way, as promised in the description. The licorice is a top ingredient but not at all overpowering. It has a nice floral thing going on with the honey.
