simple ingredients, big comfort

Our Genmaicha tea is a cozy blend of premium sencha green tea with toasted & popped rice. This tradition of adding rice to green tea dates back centuries; as the colder months started to settle in, rice was added to the last tea harvest in fall to ensure there was enough to sip all winter. The warm character of toasted rice brings a subtle nutty sweetness to your cup, balancing perfectly with the fresh vegetal flavor of sencha.

What makes it great:

 • Smooth premium blend of sencha green tea comes from Miyazaki and Kagoshima, Japan.
 • Use hotter temperature water to highlight the toasty rice flavor or lower temperature water to focus on the vegetal sencha tea base.
 • ICDYK Genmaicha directly translates to “brown rice tea”—how fitting!

I had never had anything like it (since it was way different from something like horchata), and I was interested in trying to make a low-carb/sugar free version of it. When I saw Genmaicha, I just knew I had to try it. I loooove green tea for the slight caffeine boost and benefits, and this one has toasted rice? I was curious if this would give similar notes to the sikhye I had tasted before. Sure enough, the first steep I made, I fell in instant love. The toasted rice really brings a depth to the green tea, taking away any bitterness there may be from an oversteep. With a packet of stevia or two, I was able to really get a sweet toasted rice flavor, very similar and much more healthy to the sikhye I had at the spa. And with a little milk or creamer? Divine. Ohhhhhh I love this stuff. <3
Date published: 2020-08-24

Rated 5 out of 5 by A. I love the tea served in my favorite Japanese restaurant, but whenever I ask what type of tea it is, they simply answer green tea. I can't believe that I finally found the tea of my dreams!!! It has the classic green tea taste with the toasted nutty flavor of the rice. I absolutely love this tea. I steeped it a little longer than recommended, and it did not get bitter at all. I highly recommend this tea to any green tea lover.
Date published: 2021-06-11

Rated 5 out of 5 by Abi1hope from Different in a good way I love this tea. Bare with me a second, because this is going to sound crazy, but it tastes like seaweed but like in the best way possible. Like those toasted seaweed snacks.
