When will you learn to stop putting hibiscus in every freakin tea? This could have been a pink cake perfection to match my pink velvet cupcake bodycare and pink Teacake candle and add a whole mood to my Valentines ambience but alas the tea is a bit too tart (though the cake notes are yummy). My qualm is if you are claiming a red berry finish then the rhubarb is already adding tartness or substitute with strawberry or raspberry why for the love of all things sweet: Hibiscus?!! It just adds a nasty tartness to teas and it curdles my milk so I can’t even tone it down. This would have been perfect without it, I will try steeping for less time or trying to remove the flowers but this is too much work for a tea that could have been my favorite!
Date published: 2022-01-29

Rated 1 out of 5 by Anonymous from Not good This is one of the worst teas from Davids Tea. The Pink Velvet Cake looks rather unassuming in its tin, and while it has the mildest scent of all of them, the scent itself is rather pleasant. I think it smells mostly like vanilla and a hint of white chocolate, and personally I smelled no berries whatsoever in the whiffs I took of the tin. The first listed ingredient is pineapple, but there aren’t that many pineapple bits in my tin, so maybe that’s just how mine ended up as, while others are way different. As Hot Tea: As per the recommendation on the box, I made this as a hot tea. At first I was tempted to try and add milk, but then I realized this tea has hibiscus in it (bless DT for making sure the ingredient list is always somewhere nearby haha) so I decided not to. It steeps nicely, but very slowly, and is one of those teas you need to stir in order to get the flavor and color evenly distributed in the steeper and cup. Generally, it smells very sweet, kind of chocolate-y (not necessarily exactly like white chocolate though) and that berry scent was finally coming through also, though in a sort of obscure way. I have to admit I wasn’t sure what to expect when I took my first few sips, since my brain couldn’t place this tea whatsoever. It doesn’t quite taste like chocolate, white or other, but there’s something there that does remind of chocolate and vanilla, and there is that bit of fruity tartness in it which I personally thought complimented the rest of the flavors of this tea. Maybe I’ll try the rest I have of my tin again as iced tea and see how that goes, or maybe I’ll even attempt to add some frothed oat-soy milk since that shouldn’t curdle. (or at least hasn’t so far with any other hibiscus-containing teas, but who knows??) But all in all, it tasted…sweet. It wasn’t a bad taste, and now that I’m writing the review I’m startled to see so many poor reviews on this blend. It wasn’t a bad tea or anything, and I quite liked it and could drink my cup just fine. If anything, I feel the flavor was a little weak, which is a shame, because it looked like it had steeped very nicely after almost 13 minutes. Who would I recommend this tea to? People who enjoy sweet teas and like to try new things, or who really like hibiscus and hibiscus-containing teas (so no risk of adding milk by accident).
Date published: 2022-08-28

Rated 2 out of 5 by Babbit from Very Sour It smells great, but it doesn't taste anything like it smells.
