It' the cream flavoring that they use. It smells like cheap vanilla extract and medicine. After steeping, the smell does mellow. The flavor of the cream is bearable but not good. It totally overpowers any rose taste. I did not get any rose notes and there were very few petals in the bag. This tea also has an unpleasant aftertaste. I have had a rose tea before and was looking forward to a delicate taste. I think the cream flavoring causes this tea to taste like licorice. I do not taste any rose. I will drink it because I am ok with a licorice taste but I will not repurchase it.
