Fall favorite, but not a chai
It's definitely not fall until I brew the first pumpkin Chai latte. I absolutely love this tea, however, if you are looking for a pumpkin spice blend, I would look elsewhere. The spice flavor is definitely mellow in this one. I get a little bit of cloves but that's about it. What I mainly get is a smoky pumpkin blend with caramel and brown sugar undertones. Which for me is fine because I love anything pumpkin. I would highly recommend this for anyone who wants a mellower pumpkin blend as I cannot survive the Autumn without it.

I made this and was a bit underwhelmed, but then I took the suggested recipe from the product description - brown sugar and steamed milk, and that changed everything. That is how I exclusively made it from then on out.
Wish it was lower or no caffeine, but I was able to enjoy this on the days when I could sit at home and relax.
It has a good spiced pumpkin flavor, in my opinion. Not too much pumpkin and not too much spice (although there was more spice than pumpkin, I would say)
Although caffeinated, I would purchase this again.

I’ve been an enjoyer of this tea for a long time and I usually buy enough to last the year. The last batch I bought has a different flavor than what I knew and loved. Just like SRDC4 discovered, the flavor changed, and it’s not better.
I’m sad that something I’ve been enjoying since the first season they ever had it is now different so instead of drinking it every day, I’ve stopped completely.

It's certainly different
I am one of the many that gets this flavor every year it pops up and it's one of my happy little fall traditions. But I am sad to say that this year it is definitely different. I wouldn't say it's bad tasting but it tastes more like a gingerbread cookie than the original pumpkin chai. It also is a bit overpowered by cloves and I can't taste anything even close to pumpkin. This was drinking it plain and adding a bit of milk and sweetener. Overall I'll finish what I got because it's not undrinkable but it does make me a bit sad.

5 stars for the tin, 3.5 for the tea!
I got this one as the 90g printed tin which is beautiful with the pumpkins!! I really love this tin and hope to use it lots in the future for all kinds of Halloween or autumn-themed teas!
The loose-leaf tea fills up roughly 3/4 of the tin, and looks super nice with the little candy pumpkins in it. Some of them are rather misshapen and remind more of strange orange blobs, but I still like how it looks.
Also, it smells reaaaaally nice. The pumpkin-scent really comes through in this one, with a nice, strong note of black tea. It doesn’t smell artificial, and doesn’t have that overly cinnamon-y smell, which I’m very grateful for. (I personally don’t like it when the cinnamon overpowers everything else, and generally prefer teas with little or no cinnamon, too.)
As Hot Tea:
I made this as normal hot tea first, since that’s my favorite way of consuming any tea. It steeps nicely and has a rich dark color when done. It smelled mostly of a nice, strong black tea with a hint of that autumn/fall-vibe to it, maybe from the spices or the pumpkin, though it’s a tad too faint to really become discernable. It does smell really nice though.
Taste-wise, after being impatient and burning my tongue almost immediately, the black tea taste is definitely the strongest, which I personally like. It has a sweet and yet sort of smoky aftertaste to it, and the spices are certainly there, but a little weaker than I’d have expected from a pumpkin chai. I like that there is a bit of pumpkin flavor, usually the pumpkin chai’s I’ve seen and had in the past only had pumpkin pie spices slapped onto them and that was that. Here, there is a bit of pumpkin taste, and it’s a very pleasant tea all around.
I added a bit of (oat) milk next, which made the black tea a little milder and in turn emphasized the smokiness and spices. It still mildly tasted of pumpkin, which is awesome.
I also made a second steep with the same 1.5 spoonful of tea, and it turned out okay-ish. Not the strongest second steep I’ve ever had, but also not the weakest or worst. It’s a black tea so I’d hope 2-3 steeps should be doable without a hitch, but there is a bit of loss in regards to flavor and smokiness. Still, decent steep, and decent tea.
As Tea Latte:
Since all the teas I’ve tried so far from DT tasted really great as tea lattes, I had high hopes for the pumpkin chai as well. I was gonna stick to the recommended amount of 4 Perfect spoons of tea, but after 3 scoops it already seemed…like A LOT, so I only added a tiny bit more and called it a day.
As it turns out, I think it would have been better with even less than that, because the tea steeped pretty strongly (probably due to all the black tea) and the latte turned out…alright. Not the best, not the worst, still very much drinkable, but it mostly just tasted like a really strong black tea. I didn’t get much if any of the spices, and was all around a little disappointed.
I tried a second steep since that was going to be milder, but it still had that overwhelming black tea taste, which isn’t unpleasant but reminds of a really strong black tea (that sort of malty taste that some black teas have, like Russian Country?) but I was mostly hoping for more pumpkin and chai spices and flavors.
I even did a third steep which also turned out alright, so you can certainly steep this a bunch of times if you use a little more of the tea leaves than when making a hot tea.
I’m glad I got a tin of this tea so I can try the tea latte again at a later time with less scoops and see how that goes. I think with the perfect ratio, this tea would taste absolutely amazing.
If I can’t find that perfect ratio, I’ll just enjoy it as hot tea with a bit of milk.
Who would I recommend this tea to?
Anyone who likes fall-themed flavors and teas, and who is a fan of pumpkin and/or pumpkin-related spices. This doesn’t taste as much of a chai as it does like a black tea with spices, so it might also be a good tea for someone to try out who hasn’t had a chai yet and isn’t sure whether they’d like the taste.
Also, anyone who prefers mild teas and teas that still taste like tea WITH something, rather than SOMETHING with tea.

Pumpkin chai has always been one of my favorites — but the batch I received through my most recent purchase seems like an entirely different blend.
