precious jade

An organic green tea unlike any other, Gyokuro Yamashiro (“Jade Dew”) is shaded for 6-7 weeks prior to plucking, so it’s dark, extra-energizing and extremely rare outside of Japan. We love its tea oil and chlorophyll notes. And its lengthy time out of the sun gives it an intensely rich flavour—think dark, leafy greens mingled with buttery sweetness. So. Good.

What makes it great

  • A very rare and sought-after tea—only very small quantities are imported from Japan.
  • Shaded during the final growing period, which increases chlorophyll in the leaves and gives this energizing tea a sweeter, grassier taste and a deeper green liquor.

For this Gyokuro I think the instructions are too hot in temperature and too long in steep time. For me personally, I enjoyed it best at a cooler temperature (70-75 degrees) and for shorter time (30 to 60 seconds). The result is lovely bright yellow-green, thick and creamy, full of umami flavour, warm, grassy, nectar sweet, slight honey, and buttery finish. A very enjoyable green tea. Interesting production process for gyokoro as well, worth looking up.</span> <div class="bvseo-pubdate">Date published: 2021-02-27</div> <meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2021-02-27" /> </div> <div class="bvseo-review" itemprop="review" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Review" data-reviewid="226396538"> <span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Rating"> Rated <span itemprop="ratingValue">5</span> out of <span itemprop="bestRating">5</span> </span> by <span itemprop="author" itemtype="https://schema.org/Person" itemscope><span itemprop="name">Anonymous</span></span> from <span itemprop="name">Organic Gyokuro Yamashiro</span> <span itemprop="description">I took two infusions of this delightful gyokuro in a shiboridashi (handcrafted by Petr Novak) savouring the soft, yet intense vegetal aroma and flavour with its slightly sweet finish. And then...I ate the leaves, with a light drizzle of chili oil mixed with soy sauce and sesame oil, garnished with a sprinkle of toasted sesame seeds. Absolutely exquisite! This Organic Gyokuro Yamashiro was perfect for my meditative tea ceremony and then did double duty as a light lunch! Satisfying on multiple levels, this is a tea I would buy again.</span> <div class="bvseo-pubdate">Date published: 2019-11-24</div> <meta itemprop="datePublished" content="2019-11-24" /> </div> <div class="bvseo-review" itemprop="review" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Review" data-reviewid="231271114"> <span itemprop="reviewRating" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/Rating"> Rated <span itemprop="ratingValue">5</span> out of <span itemprop="bestRating">5</span> </span> by <span itemprop="author" itemtype="https://schema.org/Person" itemscope><span itemprop="name">Da-rog</span></span> from <span itemprop="name">High Quality Japanese Green Tra</span> <span itemprop="description">It has been my number one choice for over five years I think. Beautiful, bright green in colour. Fantastic aroma that jump starts your senses. Just as others have noted, only recommended to those with thermometer to brew at proper temperature for a velvety, sweet, smooth, green, energizing brew.
