It's a little difficult to keep open but it stays closed once it's in your mug. After a few uses, there was a gap between the side where it opens and all the leaves fell out into my mug. I ended up using my hand to hit it back into place and it works again. It's also a little difficult to clean because you have to have small fingers to be able to get under the topside of the upper half. It's also not the easiest to clean. So the time I'm kind of saving buy not having to get a separate scoop out is negated by the time this takes to clean. It worked for about 6 months, and then the blue middle rubber broke. Meaning it doesn't seal properly and can't open. The compartment for the leaves stopped fully closing so all of the leaves would leak out into the water.
