A deliciously smooth & sweet blend of shou pu’erh, the leaves in this tea come from Menghai county in the province of Yunnan. In fact, the people of Menghai were some of the first in world to cultivate and drink tea as early as 1500 BC. The shape in which the leaves are rolled is traditionally referred to as “dragon ball”, which inspired the name. Wrapped in individual servings, remember to discard of the golden wrapper before steeping. If you’re new to shou pu’erh, Golden Dragon Pu’erh is a great introduction to the craftsmanship of the Menghai community. It smells of sweet, wet earth & cremini mushrooms – think deep mountain ranges after a long rainfall.

What makes it great

 • Menghai is home of the most reputed sources of pu’erh.
 • The leaves in this blend are sourced from Bu Lang Mountain, Na Ka Village & Jing Mai Mountain.
 • This is shou style pu’erh meaning it’s a cooked pu’erh.
 • The aromas & flavours in this tea type remind us of the terroir where it is grown – like the nostalgic, smooth & enveloping smell after a long rainfall.

Don't brew this tea expecting a light aromatic taste. Its rich, bold, and unapologetically unique in its own way that can be irritatingly expensive. The aged tea leaves gives you an earthy and warm roasty flavour leaving a slight bitter and sometimes sour aftertaste that you unexpectedly crave for as you continue to enjoy this tea. If you've never tried Pu'erh before, I'd suggest easing your taste buds some non floral dark teas for you to start. Pu'erhs don't have a lot of fans...true Pu'erh appreciation drinkers spend hundreds and thousands of dollars for this stinky tea.
Date published: 2021-02-12

Rated 4 out of 5 by meeep from Pleasantly surprised :-) I had never trie'd pu'erh tea prior to buying this. I never gave it much thought until I saw the way the golden dragon tea was rolled up into some (fake but pretty) gold-plated paper, which I thought was super neat! When it arrived it didn't smell too appealing to be honest. It wasnt what I expected and smelled sort of similar to beefy dog food (I know that sounds awful, but wait!). When it came down to actually drinking it I actually enjoyed it! The description saying it smells like mountains after a heavy rainfall is spot on with the taste and, admittedly, a bit of the smell too. I can appreciate the tea's history and the work that goes into making this blend. Its for sure earthy and decadent, so if you're into that, I would recommend. Normally I don't drink tea of this sort of flavour, but I'm glad I got a chance to try it out! :-)
Date published: 2020-11-09

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nat. I should've passed! I'll finish it because I don't want to waste money it but it's not something that I'd ever purchase again. Pro:The taste of the tea itself isn't bad; darker flavor, but not like a straight black tea. Con:However, the smell is very unpleasant; off putting, like old mushrooms, or some Chinese medicine concoction (I'm Asian) or even the zoo. I apologize for the blunt review and by no means trying to ruin the reputation of David's Tea (as I love the other flavors and the mugs and accessories & also spend quite a bit annually), but customers should be aware of what they're purchasing, especially since there are so few stores left which make it difficult to sample teas before purchasing a 50G bag (or larger). If you're a Pu'reh fan this might be for you but it's a definite pass for me.
Date published: 2020-11-20

Rated 5 out of 5 by Nicole Marie from A New Favourite I didn’t know what this tea was.
