I always break down and try the first day of the advent calendar early and upon opening day 1 and seeing Butterscotch Chai I was very excited to try it because just from the name it sounds like it cannot be anything but good. I was wrong. Almost all I could taste was butter, the nutty profile of the rooibos, and a hint of black pepper. I could smell the spices of chai but could not taste them. There was only the faintest hint of caramel flavour. I almost feel like it's already got some Irish Cream in it! I see some reviews note not much chai or butterscotch flavour, and they're probably right, but I think that's a problem with the name, not the tea. I can see a few spices in the mix but I can't smell or taste them at all. Ditto for the butterscotch flavour. The only thing it smells or tastes like to me is artificial popcorn flavour, kinda like those old scatch-and-sniff stickers I had as a kid. I've noticed the same flavouring used in many other teas and it's just not appealing to me. I tought it smelled funny, but after my first sip I was like: &quot;Yuk, this taste like tropical fruits?&quot; Went and read the label and yup there are 3 of those in there. Saddly for me, I don't like tropical fruits (which for some reason seem to be in a huge chunk of the teas they carry) I can't even find an hint of butterscotch! Tried to give some to my partner and they told me that it had a weird after taste too. The base flavour of the tea is great, unfortunately it's quickly overtaken by the bitter sweet disgusting flavour of stevia. It's a shame how many products in this store have stevia in them, I really wish you would let us sweeten our own teas. Glad I only purchased 50g, but given that I haven't been able to finish a single cup I'm not really sure what to do with the rest of it. What does this tea taste like? It is a lovely chai tea and I wouldn't have given it 5 stars if not for the fact that I get no butterscotch taste in it. Some of the reviews on this tea were all over the place: good, bad, meh. Some saying it tastes like popcorn, or straight-up butter, etc. Well, I still wanted to try it. Overall impression: it's fine. It's not amazing, and it's not bad, it's very middle of the road. If you like Creme Brulee Rooibos or Monster Mash, it's very similar to those. It doesn't taste the same as it smells in the package, so don't let the strange smell fool you. It's sweet, has various background flavours mixed together, and I don't really get any particular flavour I can pin down.
